I know that I might be stating the obvious, but this is not the same as giving up chocolate. Alcohol is an addictive substance that causes impairment in judgement. One reason that you try and fail is because the deck is stacked against you.
Alcohol is the only drug that you have to explain NOT taking. As a society, alcohol is accepted as normal. Breaking free from the gray area cycle can be particularly difficult as those around you don’t recognize the problem.
Alcohol keeps us at a distance from uncomfortable or painful feelings. When we pull the alcohol away without addressing what lies beneath, it can be impossible to move forward.
